Evidence based medicine (EBM) is the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of the current best evidence in making treatment decisions. The three key principles in EBM include systematic summaries of the best evidence, a schema for deciding what constitutes the best evidence and the prominent consideration of individual patient values and preferences.

The prestigious EBM conferences conducted by Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), Mumbai every year has been a pioneering step towards integration of such noble practice in the field of oncology in India. Every Oncologist in the country, both practitioners and students eagerly look forward to this academic event. Numerous clinical trials from around the world and expert practises are available to us today, but through EBM we get a platform to think, debate and even critically analyse these evidences.

For the EBM 2022, the topics considered includes, Contemporary management of Lung cancer: Hope to Reality; Musculoskeletal Oncology: Current Practices and Bridging the Gaps! and Reconstruction and cancer care: Enhancing quality living with and beyond cancer.

All the above themes are magnus and to organise a discussion on the current evidences pertaining to this topic require a strong scholastic powerhouse. By bringing both international and national stalwarts under a single roof, TMC has made sure that all the attendees achieve maximum clarity on these topics. Advanced reconstructive surgeries, coupler anastomosis, free fillet flaps, single incision acetabular resection, diffusion weighted MRI characterization of soft tissue tumours, advanced immunohistochemistry, surgery in oligometastatic lung cancer, is a few among the many impressive abstracts which will be discussed at the academic fest. As a student of science, I am in fact excited to witness and participate in this event.

More often Evidence based medicine measure the improvement gained in length of life but often ignores the quality-of-life improvement or loss. Value-based medicine incorporates the best features of evidence-based medicine and takes evidence-based data to a higher level by incorporating the quality-of-life perceptions of patients with a disease in concerning the value of an intervention.

The Oncology paradigm is well poised to undergo translational changes and the excitement with which we are approaching this 20th Annual EBM meeting is testimony that we are prepared for the change.
